In-Person FAQs
What will be covered in the Disability Inclusion session?
The training is delivered in a judgement-free learning environment. Attendees increase their knowledge to incorporate inclusive practices in both their personal and professional lives.
Topics covered in the training include:
- The Social Model of Disability & Universal Design
- Attitudes & Unconscious Bias
- Language & Communication
- Collaborating & Working with Community
When will the facilitators arrive and leave?
The facilitators will arrive 30 minutes prior to the start of the session to meet with the hosting organisation and ensure the technology and room is ready. To allow for attendees to ask any further questions and pack down, the facilitators leave 30 minutes after the session end time.
Therefore, the room should be books for 4 hours in total to allow for pack up, session run time, and pack down.
How many facilitators will be at the session?
Each 3-hour session is co-facilitated by two experienced facilitators and the 1-hour session is delivered by one facilitator. All facilitators live with diverse disability. Our engaging facilitators bring a wealth of personal experience that makes the training content relatable and relevant. You will be informed of the confirmed facilitators 1-2 days before the session date.
Who hosts and how should the room be set up for the session?
Training sessions are hosted on-site by participating organisations so there is no need for your staff or volunteers to travel. Arrangements can be made should you lack an appropriate meeting space.
This is all depending on your organisation's room and the sessions are flexible how they can be presented. However, the facilitators should be at the front of the room with the attendees facing them. In the 3-hour session there is a group activity, attendees either should already be grouped together on tables or can break off into groups. Please have pen and paper available for attendees to use during the activity.
We have facilitators with varying disabilities so ask that the room has access to accessible toilets and to be informed of the access into the building (e.g., are there stairs to enter the building). This will impact which facilitators we secure for the session. If you do not have an adequate room or unsure of accessibility requirements, please contact Inclusion Training Team to support in discussing external room bookings for the session.
Venue Accessibility
To best support our facilitators, we may require information ahead of time regarding venue accessibility and technology availability, including:

Ramp access to venue
Ramp access to building and room
Ramp access to stage (if relevant)

Please consider the above list when booking a venue or room for the session. Please contact Inclusion Team if you need assistance or have any further questions.
What are the technology requirements?
For the session, the facilitators bring the training content on an USB drive. They do not bring their own technology.
For the session, you must provide or have access to:
- A laptop
- Projector or screen
- Any necessary cables to plug laptop into projector/screen
- Speakers
- Access to Wi-Fi
If you need assistance securing technology, please contact Inclusion Training team to support in providing necessary equipment for the session.
If your organisation doesn't allow for external devices, please contact Inclusion Training team for the training content to be delivered in advance.
Do we need to provide food or coffee/tea for breaks?
That is up to the organisation if they would like to provide during the session break. Sessions are either delivered in the morning or afternoon and many organisations provide their employees with snacks and coffee/tea.
Purple Orange does not provide morning or afternoon tea as part of the session.
What about accessibility requirements for attendees?
If any of your attendees have any accessibility requests, please let us know before the session to best prepare for the session and make any necessary adjustments or bookings.
Please let Inclusion Training team know as soon as possible of any accessibility requirements.
Do I need to be in attendance?
We ask that you can be a point of contact and support for the facilitators during the session. As part of our Safety Plan, we have the hosting individual to assist in any questions or concerns the facilitators may have.
If you are unable to make it to the session time, please let us know as soon as possible an alternate contact to provide to the facilitators.
